Congratulations on a fine creation, Sandra! You and your book were part of my inspiration for serializing my memoir here on Substack. I thank you for that and I hope to follow in your footsteps; when my serialization is finished in October, I'll be doing the DIY paperback thing, too. This whole self-pub route seems fun and creative.
It all depends on your writing and publishing goals. For me, I'd always wanted recognition, residencies, reviews in fancy places, and awards (which to a certain extent happened), and I very much cared what the gatekeepers thought about my work. But I'm over seventy now. I don't care anymore.
Yes, I'm hoping to score a contest win and/or university/small press acceptance for my completed poetry manuscript and, eventually, my memoir and novels-in-progress for just those reasons-- mainstream recognition and, with luck, opportunities to teach at writing conferences and/or MFA programs, online or in-person. I know self-publishing likely won't bring those kinds of opportunities, even if the work is strong. So I'll try mainstream first. I'm getting such a late start, though. I got my MFA way back in 2001, then spent twenty years treading water teaching high school English in the Bronx. I'm retired now, so there's time at last, but I worry no one will want to publish or hire this ol' lady.
All the success to you, Pips! You know this most likely, but remember that I was 62 when my debut novel was published, 66 for the memoir, and 71 for the next novel and the essay collection.
This is so exciting! I will certainly order from Amazon (or, as Alison used to say, Medusa.com) if that's the only option, but I just wonder--can I get it through my local booksore? Through The Lynx in Gainesville? Congratulations!
It is not a hassle at all. In fact, it's probably the way I should do it. I just hadn't thought it through yet. Anyway, the book is $19.95 plus $5 shipping, so 24.95. If you use PayPal my email is sandragaillambert@yahoo.com (be sure and indicate the "personal" option rather than the business one to avoid fees.) Or if you want to send a check, email me and I'll send you my street address. Either way works just fine for me.

I'm so glad I could help out!
Mazel Tov! The self-publishing route appeals to me more and more as well. So called "gate keepers" seem less and less necessary these days.

Thanks so much, Sandra! I appreciate the encouragement.
Congratulations!
Self-published or posh-published, you’re still the best author I know. And I say that with absolute and proud bias. 😍❤️
Thank you, my beloved wife.

No, not through a bookstore, dang it. But you can order one directly from me. Let me know if you want to do that, and I'll send you the info.
Well yes, I do. Thanks, I'm sure it's a hassle.
