Solstice, 2022! That's when I signed the contract with University of Georgia Press to publish My Withered Legs and Other Essays. And today, the first of March, with its voluptuous gibbous moon, the book is officially available.
Yes, for a while now, the publisher has been sending the books out to anyone who ordered directly from them. But today is the day bookstores and others are allowed to sell copies. And if you prefer a Kindle version—zip, zap, one-click and there it is.
And now the show begins. On Sunday is the launch event here in Gainesville, in person (with cookies) and on zoom (provide your own cookies). One of the companion essays I wrote in anticipation of the launch, "Old Lesbian Love," was accepted by The Millions! (Thank you, Vesto PR) It should go up on their site this next week. And I'm being interviewed by a producer at WUFT in a few days as well. And later this month, I'm speaking at Santa Fe College for their combo Women's/Disability Pride Month program.
I'm hoping for a few more events but so far Midtown Books and Tombolo Books haven't gotten back with us. But mostly, I'm settled and happy with the plans we have. And so happy about this book existing in the world. I gotta say, it's beautiful.
So I found your book on my first trip to Savannah. I was about to leave the bookstore, Eshavers, a lovely well curated store with a big fluffy cat asleep in the front window, when I saw your book. I quickly skimmed the opening essay as I could feel my legs were weakening and added it to my pile. I'm so glad I did!
Looking forward to Sunday 🙏
